Improving the appearance of landscapes and as premium mulch for aiding water penetration and promoting root growth.
Tiny Timber are pure chips diverted from co-generation plants and do not contain any green waste. Instead of these products finding their way to waste, we reclaim and upcycle them as path mulch. After a season or two, you can skim the top layer and return those nutrients to your garden for further amendment of high organic matter.
Mulch protects the plants’ root systems and adds much-needed nutrients to the soil. It also slows the erosion of topsoil, prevents weeds and retains moisture (which means less time weeding and watering your garden.) Chips draw carbon to help keep your compost porous and sustain microbes. The function and appearance of mulch depends largely on the material used in creating it – ours consists completely of high-end, local chips that are gorgeous and smell terrific, if we do say so ourselves.
Reminders: Don’t put mulch down too early in the spring. Mulching too early will actually slow down the warming of the soil. Also, make sure the area is weed-free before mulching. To prevent stems and bark from rotting, pull mulch away from woody stems and tree trunks 1 to 2 inches. Also, if mulch is touching the plants, pests such as mice and slugs have great a hiding place (not to mention a free lunch).
